I LOVE My Job!!!

Monday was my first day at Matthew’s Paint, PPG. I am flying to Kenosha, Wisconsin for my training and flying home on weekends. In about two weeks I should be moving to Columbus, Ohio. Everything is happening so fast, it’s crazy! But I love it!

I only went into to work for about 2 and 1/2 hours Monday but afterwards all I could think is: I LOVE my job! I know it seems a bit early to say that but Thursday night I was still saying it and my mom could tell when I called her that I am TRULY happy and it’s been awhile since I’ve been this happy. The people are great, I like the two customer service reps I work with, Niki and Ellen. This week Allison, the Marketing Coordinator, will join us.

Matt, who is training me, is awesome. They call him ‘ADD boy’ because he’ll start one thing and then skip to another thing that comes up. It doesn’t bother me though; I try to keep him on task if I think I’ll get confused. My territory is the Southeast and my major accounts are Disney, Creative Colors, and Hope’s Windows. We supply the paint for the signs outside in Disney and have 75% of the market in Florida. Matt was nervous about meeting me, he was afraid I wouldn’t represent Matthew’s Paint well or his customers wouldn’t be in good hands with me. I’m really sad that I won’t be working with Matt in Delaware because it is so much fun training with him.

What I love most is throughout the week there were little things that just made my day. For example we all received Matthew’s Paint laptop bags. The hotel we’re staying at has cookies in the afternoon when we return from work (and they’re good!). Those are the only things I can think of right now but I get excited about the little things. I think it’s better to live your life that way, to have reasonable expectations but appreciate the little things.

The best thing about the end of the week is Ohio State LOST and Niki, Ellen, and Chad are fans (and Penn State won)!!!

YOU’RE FIRED

ALL CAPS Emails Lead to Firing

I READ THIS ARTICLE AND WASN’T SURE HOW I FELT ABOUT IT.  NOW, OBVIOUSLY ALL CAPS IN AN EMAIL IS COMPLETELY UNNECCESSARY AND UNPROFESSIONAL, IN MY OPINION.  HOW COULD YOU TAKE SOMEONE SERIOUSLY WHILE READING AN EMAIL LIKE THIS? HOW COULD THIS WOMAN WRITE AN EMAIL THIS WAY? MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE I CAN’T STAND ALL CAPS.

YOU KNOW I HAVE READ A LOT OF ARTICLES ABOUT WHAT NOT TO WRITE IN THANK YOU LETTERS AFTER AN INTERVIEW OR COVER LETTERS BUT NONE OF THEM MENTION WRITING IN ALL CAPS.  MAYBE BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW OF ANYONE WHO WOULD!

ONE COMMENT ASKS WHETHER THE WOMAN RECEIVED ANY WARNINGS ABOUT HER EMAILS BEFORE BEING FIRED.  NOW I THINK RECEIVING A WARNING BEFORE FIRING SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IF IT WASN’T BUT I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE LAWSUIT SHE FILED… INTERESTING ARTICLE AND AGAIN I DON’T KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT…BUT I STILL SAY ALL CAPS IS ANNOYING.

P.S. I DON’T WRITE IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS, I ONLY DID BECAUSE OF THE ARTICLE. :)

Jobless Grad Sues College for Tuition

A couple days ago I came across this article and I was quite appalled;

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32265981/?GT1=43001.”

Wouldn’t we all like to do this if we didn’t have a job after being unemployed for only 3 months? 3 months is nothing compared to those who have been unemployed since August of last year! If this woman would even win this case, don’t see how she would, every college graduate who is currently unemployed would follow suit. I do have to frown upon the college for not teaching her well; many people realize the economy is currently in a recession making it harder to find work among other things. So I attribute her unemployment to the fact that she’s too lazy to look online everyday and apply for jobs and start networking, she shouldn’t have much trouble finding work with an information technology degree.

But on a positive note the Job Report for July was released this morning. Unemployment rate is at 9.4%, down one tenth a percent from June and average hourly earnings are up one tenth a percent at 0.2%. The average period of unemployment is 24.5 weeks, about 6 months. The market has been pretty flat lately rather than declining and last night Obama announced that we are out of the recession. Although, CNBC pointed out that many Americans will look for immediate assurance that Obama is correct and will be dissappointed when they don’t see immediate results. Be patient jobless grads like me, things can only get better…
